...to equip God's people to do His work and build up the Church, the body of Christ, until we come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God's Son that we will be mature and full grown in the Lord, measuring up to the full stature of Christ.

Small Groups...

A look at some very familiar subjects with fresh eyes - the eyes of a pilgrim seeking not just to travel further, but also to travel deeper in our understanding of God. The Tuesday Travellers small group meets at 12 noon (along with a lovely, simple lunch) and also in the evening at 7.30 pm. Whichever one suits you better, please come along:

Preparation for Marriage...

A group is formed twice a year - spring-time and autumn - to help couples who are planning to get married in one of our churches, in their preparations for life after the wedding day! The group meets for 5 or 6 sessions, as an opportunity for couples to discuss their plans, dreams, hopes for wedded life. Although the discussions are private to each couple, the group is facilitated by an experienced couple within the congregation.

Prayer...

As well as the regular services of worship on Sundays, there are always other opportunities for praising God and praying. Two prayer groups meet each week - one on a Tuesday morning at 9.30 am in the small hall at Mayfield/Easthouses church and the other on a Wednesday morning at 10.00 am in the small hall at Newtongrange church. Please feel free to join either of the groups.

Mens' Fellowship...

The Men's Fellowship is open to all adult men within the parish. Our aims are threefold:
(1) To provide a club-like atmosphere where men can meet, play games such as carpet bowls, darts, whist, dominoes and chess.
(2) To help maintain the fabric of the church by giving of our time and talents. One ongoing task is keeping the garden tidy.
(3) Outreach - there are members who do not regularly attend church.

We meet fortnightly on Mondays from 8 September until end of May at 7.00 pm.in the large hall at Mayfield/Easthouses church and, over the summer, every Monday at 7.00 pm at Mayfield Bowling Club. At the Men's Fellowship, the kettle is always on the boil!

The Guild...

Previously known as the Woman's Guild, the Guild now welcomes gentlemen as well as ladies. The Guild is a movement within the Church of Scotland which invites and encourages both women and men to commit their lives to Jesus Christ and enables them to express their faith in worship, prayer and action. The aim has been underlined in our motto which is taken from Acts 27:23: "Whose we are and Whom we serve".

The theme for this year is: "Let's live - Body, Mind and Soul". A warm welcome awaits any ladies or gentlemen who care to come along.

The meetings cover a variety of subjects and, as part of the Lothian Presbytery, there are several joint meetings with other Guilds within the area; the highlights being the Communion Service in September and the Summer Rally in June.

Newbattle Guild meets at 7.30 pm. in the large hall at Mayfield/Easthouses church on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month (from October until end of March). The year's session will close with a day outing.

Newbattle Ramblers ...

The Newbattle Ramblers meet usually for the afternoon of the penultimate Sunday of each month. Information sheets about each walk (including meeting times and places, distance to be covered and level of difficulty) are placed in all three worship centres 2 weeks beforehand. This is a great opportunity for fellowship, to find out about our local history and wildlife while enjoying the fresh air and exercise. The walks are organised and led by Alex Duncan.
